On May 28, a juvenile thought to be the son of a Telangana politician from Sangareddy district was detained for his suspected role in the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in a car parked in a remote location in Hyderabad’s posh Banjara Hills neighbourhood.
After a five-day hunt, police confiscated the car, an Innova, and forensic experts collected samples on Sunday amid suspicions that evidence was tampered with to protect the five boys suspected of raping the girl. The five come from affluent and powerful households.
The fourth suspect was apprehended on Sunday. Over the last two days, another politician’s son, 17, and two of his buddies were apprehended. The fifth suspect has yet to be apprehended. Police are likely to go to court on Monday to demand the release of all four people arrested.
