A special court in Ranchi convicted and sentenced Congress MLA Bandhu Tirkey to three years in prison in a disproportionate assets (DA) case while he was the HRD Minister during the tenure of former CM Madhu Koda.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigated the case and concluded that Tirkey “amassed assets worth Rs 6.28 lakh more” than his known sources of income between 2005 and 2009. Tirkey is said to have lost his seat in the Jharkhand Assembly as a result of the sentence, as he is disqualified under the Representation of the People Act.
The Vigilance Bureau turned over the investigation to the CBI, which filed charges against Koda and his ministers in 2010.
