In the latest violence in the city’s transit system, a masked gunman detonated a smoke bomb and opened fire in a New York City subway vehicle on Tuesday, injuring 16 people and disrupting the morning commute, officials said.

The event resulted in ten persons being shot, according to New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, who did not specify how the other injuries occurred.
