
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), March was the hottest in India’s 122-year history.
March’s maximum temperature broke every time-average maximum temperature record set in March 2010. The average monthly day temperature in India reached 33.09 degrees Celsius in March 2010.
Last month, however, the mercury soared, with an average monthly day temperature of 33.1 degrees, breaking all previous heat records for the month since 1901. The maximum temperature recorded at the Pitampura monitoring station in Delhi on March 20 was 39.9 degrees Celsius, making it the warmest day of the year.
