As part of the buildup of cyclone Asani, India Meteorological Department scientist RK Janamani warned on Sunday that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would see heavy rainfall and severe gusts today. “It’s currently a depression, but it’ll turn into a deep depression by Monday morning, and then into a cyclonic storm by Monday evening. Cyclone Asani will be the name given to it if it develops into a cyclonic storm “Janamani stated.
According to PTI, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra indicated on Sunday that the cyclone will not hit the Andaman Islands. Today, the weather system is likely to deteriorate into a deep depression, then a cyclonic storm.
“The weather system will continue northward along and off the Andaman Islands, towards Myanmar and the south Bangladesh coast, according to our forecast,” Mohapatra noted.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) members have been mobilized and are ready to conduct search and rescue operations in several locations, equipped with all essential equipment.
On Sunday afternoon, Indian Coast Guard ships were shepherding fishermen out at sea and delivering weather warnings ahead of Cyclone Asani.
