
Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, issued a statement on Wednesday stating that he has rejected the opposition parties’ suggestion that he run for President of India. “I am pleased to continue my work for the welfare of the ordinary man,” Pawar wrote on Twitter, explaining why he declined the offer.
Mamata Banerjee recommended Farooq Abdullah and Gopalkrishna Gandhi as opposition candidates after Sharad Pawar declined the offer, according to RSP’s NK Premchandran, who attended the opposition leaders’ meeting in New Delhi.
