As a deadly heat wave sweeps the country as extreme weather events set new records in a number of locations, Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh recorded a peak temperature of 47 degrees Celsius today, the city’s highest for April in nearly 20 years.
The all-time high temperature for the month was 46.33 degrees Celsius, set on April 30, 1999. Last year, it was 44.3 percent, and in 2020, it will be 43.7 percent.
According to the seven-day prognosis, temperatures will not dip below 40 degrees until at least May 5, albeit there will be a continuous drop in temperature from tomorrow onward.
When an area reaches a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius, a heatwave is declared, based mostly on absolute temperatures.
