
As Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov travelled to Delhi for talks, the United States and Australia chastised India for considering a Russian proposal that would undermine sanctions imposed by America and its allies, revealing a growing schism between the emerging security partners.
“Now is the time to stand on the right side of history, to stand with the United States and dozens of other countries, to stand up for freedom and democracy” and sovereignty with the Ukrainian people, rather than funding, fueling, and assisting President Putin’s war,” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told reporters in Washington on Wednesday. She called reports of the deal “deeply disappointing,” but added that she hadn’t seen any details.
