
Following footage of Israeli police brutality during the burial of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed while documenting an Israeli military incursion in the West Bank earlier this week, city of Jenin, the Biden administration issued its strongest public condemnation of Israel to date on Friday.
According to televised footage from the funeral procession, Israeli forces deployed stun grenades on a crowd in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, as well as clubs on mourners carrying the late Al Jazeera journalist’s corpse.
“The images of Israeli police interfering with the funeral procession of Palestinian American Shireen Abu Akleh gravely upset the United States,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, adding that “every family deserves to be allowed to lay their loved ones to rest in peace and dignity.”
