P Chidambaram, a senior Congress leader, took a shot at the Centre on Saturday, saying the government had found the “ideal answer” to the frequent power outages, which is to cancel passenger trains and operate coal rakes.
On Friday, various states continued to face power shortages, with rising temperatures driving up demand and opposition parties blaming the Centre for coal shortages at thermal plants.
Chidambaram, in an attack on the administration over the problem, said, “Coal is plentiful, there is a vast rail network, and thermal plant capacity is underutilised. Nonetheless, there is a severe power shortage. The Modi administration is not to blame. It’s because of Congress’s 60-year reign!”
