Covid 19: India accused of attempting to postpone the WHO’s revision of the death toll

India has been accused of attempting to stall a World Health Organization effort to revise the global death toll from Covid-19 after calculations revealed that the country had undercounted its dead by an estimated 3.5 million.

The official death toll from Covid in India is 520,000. However, according to WHO’s in-depth analysis and investigations into the data, the total is more than 4 million, making it the world’s highest country death toll by far.

The figure corresponds to previous estimates by scientists, data analysts, and medical journals that the true number of Covid deaths in India was up to ten times higher than that recorded in official statistics.
