On Sunday, over a hundred stray dogs were reportedly culled in Thigul village in Telangana’s Siddipet district. The event was discovered after a village pet dog went missing.
Adulapuram Goutham, an animal activist, has filed a complaint against the local sarpanch and secretary, accusing them of hiring contract killers and poisoning the dogs. He further claimed that the dogs’ remains were unlawfully disposed of in large pits.
A video circulating on social media shows dog carcasses heaped up in a pit. Over 200 dogs from the hamlet have been poisoned and killed in the last three months,” said Goutham, who works with the Stray Animal Foundation of India.
The police have filed a case against the sarpanch and secretary of Thigul village, and the bodies of the canines will be submitted for an autopsy.
