The forest department has put up traps along the leopard’s favorite route in an attempt to capture it alive nearly 12 days after it was seen in Palacode. A farmer in town discovered his chicks were being preyed upon and, while analyzing CCTV footage, spotted the leopard, contacting the forest authorities.
“The forest authority urged us to stay inside and not go out after midnight because it would scare the leopard into attacking us,” said Murugan, a Palacode farmer. As farmers, though, we don’t have a choice; our work begins even before the sun rises. We’re hoping the forest team catches the leopard soon because this leopard hunt is putting a lot of pressure on us farmers.”
