In Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, a 72-year-old man tries to burn himself on fire before being saved at the secretariat

On Wednesday morning, a 72-year-old man in Tiruvallur took the drastic step of self-immolating in front of the Secretariat after struggling to recover his loan amount from a retired railway official.

Ponnusamy, 72, of Nirmala Nagar in Thiruvalangadu, near Tiruvallur, had been rushing from pillar to post in an attempt to file a complaint against the moneylender.

Ponnusamy allegedly gave 14 lakh to retired railway employee Subramani alias Anand a few months ago, but the latter failed to repay the loan.
