Ukraine severes ties with North Korea after recognizing the areas as distinct nations. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry (UFM) issued a statement in which it criticized North Korea for declaring that certain areas were “temporarily seized by Russia.”
Ukraine announced in a statement that it would break off diplomatic ties with North Korea.
Russia no longer has supporters outside of nations that rely on them politically and economically, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kulebo.
North Korea became the second Russian ally to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics after Syria did so last month.
The eastern Ukrainian coal area of Donbas contains the cities of Donetsk and Lugansk.
Following Pyongyang’s recognition of the pro-Russian rebels’ self-declared republic, Ukraine said on Wednesday that it is cutting off ties with North Korea.
