Over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation exists in the middle troposphere over the Lakshadweep Islands, while another cyclonic circulation exists in the lower troposphere over the north Tamil Nadu coast. Rains are expected across Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu as a result of these cyclonic circulations and a strong lower-level westerly flow from the Arabian Sea.
