
A group of about 20 young people cycled from the outskirts of Salem to the Local Collectorate on Monday, asking that the State government and district administration build walkways along roadside. Members of the Tamil Salai Panpadu Kazhagam rode over 40 kilometers from Jalagandapuram to the District Collectorate on Monday to increase road safety awareness and to petition the Collector. To maintain a safe environment in the state, the organization urged that the state government implement a Road Safety Act. Pedestrian pathways on both sides of major roadways were demanded by the petitioners. They also urged that automatic speed cameras be deployed on important highways to monitor speeding, as well as the formation of a road safety squad by the state.
