Prohibitory orders are in place outside the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai as the party expels OPS after taking control.

On Monday, the AIADMK General Council expelled rival leader O Panneerselvam from the party’s primary membership and treasurer ship, but the defiant leader claimed Edappady K Palaniswami did not expel him authority to show him the door and instead announced the latter’s “expulsion” from the party. At its meeting in a local marriage hall, the General Council overwhelmingly approved a special resolution to expel Panneerslvam and his followers that was proposed by senior leader Natham R. Viswanathan.

The resolution charged Panneerselvam with supporting the DMK dictatorship, maintaining connections with the leaders of the ruling party, and seeking to undermine the AIADMK. OPS acted in opposition to the party’s interests, objectives, and tenets. He took action, including engaging the police, to postpone the General Council meeting on June 23 that he and Palaniswami had jointly called.

Panneerselvam was accused of pursuing self-serving objectives by the AIADMK. Panneerselvam was fired by the party from both his primary membership and his position as treasurer. Additionally, it kicked out R Vaithilingam, P H Manoj Pandian, both lawmakers, and former MLA JCD Prabakar, who were his supporters. In response, Panneerselvam claimed that neither Palaniswami nor another leader, K P Munusamy, had the authority to remove him from his position as Coordinator because he had been chosen by “1.5 crore” party members.

Panneerselvam criticized the two and declared, “I expel them from main membership,” in the AIADMK, after they had expelled him “unilaterally” and in violation of party norms. In response to questions from reporters regarding the next step, he stated that he would cooperate with party members to approach the courts and obtain justice.
