Telangana Industry and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday demanded that the central government scrap the Cess on petrol and diesel across the country, slamming the Centre for asking fuel VAT (value-added tax) will be reduced by the states.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Centre for the rise in petrol and diesel prices.
“Fuel prices have skyrocketed as a result of the Central Government’s NPA” (non-performing asset). Is this what you mean by cooperative federalism, Narendra Modi ji? Calling states names for not cutting VAT despite the fact that we never hiked it. Telangana has not increased fuel VAT since 2014, and it has only been rounded off once,” Mr Rao tweeted.
