Russia has launched a major offensive into eastern Ukraine, according to Kyiv authorities, launching a new phase of its invasion after failing to capture the capital.
In recent weeks, Moscow has refocused its military campaign on the eastern region of Donbas, which pro-Kremlin separatists have partially controlled since 2014.
“We can now confirm that Russian troops have started the long-awaited battle for Donbass,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram on Monday.
