The Prime Minister’s Panel recommends an urban job guarantee plan and a universal basic income.

A REPORT commissioned and issued by the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) has recommended that the government implement a guaranteed employment programme for urban jobless people as well as a universal basic income (UBI) plan to close income disparities.

Citing the country’s “skewed character” of income distribution, the study also suggested raising the minimum wage and increasing government expenditure on the social sector to “make vulnerable sectors resilient to abrupt shocks” and “halt their spiral into poverty.”
