The first-ever heatwave emergency in the UK was announced following a meeting of senior government officials. The conference was held on Monday, and according to the forecasters, Britain’s record for the hottest day will be surpassed in the next days, when temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius are expected.
According to the authorities, there may be a risk to human life if the temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius.
The crisis conference was conducted in Downing Street to decide whether or not to declare a four-level national emergency given the heatwave that is affecting many parts of the UK. Only twice have such warnings been issued, according to a report.
