Four films in, Thor is still bringing the hammer down at the box office. According to studio estimates, Thor: Love and Thunder earned $143 million in its first weekend in North America. It’s a franchise best known for the God of Thunder, and it’s another success story from the summer box office season of 2022.
The film did well in India as well, grossing Rs 65 crore in four days. Love and Thunder was released one day early in the country. The film did well on Thursday (Rs 18.6 crore), but saw a significant drop on Friday.
It recovered on Saturday but returned to strength on Sunday. According to boxofficeindia, the majority of the growth came from the film’s dubbed Hindi version in the mass market.
Taika Waititi’s second Thor film opened on 4,375 screens in the United States this weekend, beginning with Thursday previews. It easily took the top spot at the box office, pushing Minions: The Rise of Gru to second place. Love and Thunder’s global total is already at $302 million, including international showings, which began in 47 territories in the middle of last week.
