UK finance minister Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid resigned, throwing the cabinet into disarray.

After finance minister Rishi Sunak and another senior minister abruptly quit over the latest scandal to derail his administration, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was fighting for his political life on Tuesday.

Within minutes of one another, Sunak and the health minister Sajid Javid both wrote Johnson resignation letters in which they both criticized his capacity to lead an organization that upheld standards.

Johnson swiftly nominated former businessman and current education minister Nadhim Zahawi as his new finance minister, signaling his aim to hold onto power for as long as possible. Steve Barclay, who was hired in February to enforce discipline inside Johnson’s administration, was transferred to the health portfolio.

The resignations occurred while Johnson was expressing regret for assigning a lawmaker to a position involving pastoral care for his party despite being informed that the politician had been the target of sexual assault allegations.
