On Friday, Russia’s military ministry announced that Ukrainian forces and foreign mercenaries had been “securely blockaded” at the Azovstal steel mill in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, where they had been holding out.
Rather than try to storm the enormous Azovstal complex, President Vladimir Putin ordered his defense minister to barricade it off “so not even a fly can get through” on Thursday.
Russia also targeted dozens of targets in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Kharkiv areas on Friday, according to the military ministry.
