UNREST IN MANY STATES FOLLOWING FRIDAY PRAYERS, WITH 40 COPS AMONG THE INJURED

Protests were staged around the country after Friday prayers in response to controversial remarks made by former BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Navin Kumar Jindal about Prophet Muhammad, with police using lathi charge and teargassing in some areas when the demonstrations became violent.

Following the afternoon namaz, members of the minority community took to the streets. While the protests in Gujarat, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Telangana were mostly peaceful, violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, and Jharkhand, injuring numerous people, including over 40 policeman.
