Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Tuesday that Health Minister Vijay Singla had been removed from the state Cabinet.
Singla was arrested and transported to Mohali’s Phase VII police station. Singla was charged with corruption under Sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was later brought before Ravtesh Inderjit Singh’s court, who sentenced him to a three-day police remand until May 27.
The Chief Minister claimed that the health minister had been implicated in corruption cases and that they had proof.
In a tender, he allegedly asked for kickbacks. Singla is accused of receiving a 1% commission on all tenders issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Later that evening, the Chief Minister’s office asked the Punjab Governor for permission to fire the health minister, which Governor Banwari Lal Purohit granted.
