The BJP is poised to become the government in Uttar
Pradesh for the second time in a row. Over two hours into the
counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party of Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath has 260 seats, with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party in
second place with 125 seats.
The Congress seems to be further marginalized in India’s
political politics in the upcoming 2022 Assembly Elections across the
five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur.
Between February 10 and March 7, elections for the 403
seats in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, which are divided across 75
districts, were held in seven phases. More than 3.75 lakh people voted
in the election. The 84 counting centers set up around the state have
concluded Round 1 counting. There will most likely be six more
rounds of counting.
